NOTICE OF RACE
AMATEUR KITEBOARDERS ASSOCIATION 2016 SERIES
- RULES
1.1 This is an AKA sanctioned event. Rules for this event in particular, will be presented during Mandatory Skipper’s meeting which will be held at 10:30am at the Event North tent on the beach.
- ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
2.1 Each competitor shall be pre-registered for the event by going online to

2.2 Competitors under 18 years of age shall present a signed and completed parent or legal guardian’s Release Form. This form will be available at the check-in table on the day of event.
2.3 Resort Entry & Parking: Only pre-registered youth competitors and their immediate families will be allowed entry in the Resort. Parking: The Ritz-Carlton Reserve has strict rules on cars for this and similar events. One car per family. The gate will direct you where to park and a shuttle cart will take you to Barlovento.
- FEES
3.1 Online registration fee for this event is US$30 plus sales tax and is due by Thursday Mar. 31, 2016.
- DIVISIONS
4.1 The Dorado Freestyle competition will be available to an Open Class division for female and male juniors under the age of 19 that are still high school students.
- OVERALL RANKING
5.1 This event’s results will count towards the Overall 2016 AKA ranking.
- EVENT SCHEDULE
6.1 Mandatory Pre-registration will be open until Thursday March 31, 2016.
6.2 Mandatory check-in: for all competitors will be open from 9AM-10:30AM Sunday April 3, 2016 at the check-in tent at Barlovento, Dorado Beach Resort.
6.3 The mandatory Skipper’s Meeting is scheduled for 10:30AM at Event North tent, which will be located on the beach.
6.4 Awards Ceremony is expected for 4PM at Barlovento.
- COMPETITION AREAS
7.1 The Competition Area is located in front of the Event North Tent, and will be marked by orange bouys.
- SCORING SYSTEM
8.1 For the Dorado Freestyle Competition, competitors will compete in head to head competition, where a panel of three judges will select a single winner, based upon certain criteria. These criteria include technical difficulty, intensity and performance. Judges will vote at the end of each heat to select a winner.
- JUDGING CRITERIA
9.1 Technical (40%): technical difficulty and execution – Reflects the technical difficulty of the executed tricks.
9.2 Intensity (40%): power and height – Reflects how big and powerful the tricks performed.
9.3 Performance (20%): smoothness, innovation and risk factor – Reflects the performance in terms of fluidity, originality and energy for each trick.
- CRASHES
10.1 Crashes have been re-defined and clarified.
A crash will be considered when:
- A competitor is capsized, losing control of the board or bar when landing a trick.
- A competitor grabs the bar leash to regain control of the bar.
- A competitor lands a trick but did not control the kite throughout the execution of the trick resulting in the release of the bar and/or the crashing of the kite into water after landing the trick.
- A competitor lands on their back and the board is completely out of the water.
Judges may give credit to a landed trick that is not a crash when:
- A competitor butt-checks when landing the trick but keeps riding and controls the kite.
- A competitor grabs the chicken loop to regain control of the bar.
- PRIZES
11.1 There will be awards presented at the Award Ceremony for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place overall Open Division.

12.1 Competitors take part in all competition at their own risk. The AKA nor any of their officials or representatives or the sponsors or their officials or representatives are not responsible, under any circumstances, for any damage, loss or injury either ashore or on the water either to persons or equipment, which may result.
12.2 Participation in this event, supporting events and in each heat is at the sole discretion of the competitor and at his/her own risk.
